Memory Lane

I thought I would share a quick memory of my Mom in light of yesterday.  My Mom always wanted me to feel pretty.  She never put anything into words, but I know this because of her actions.  We never had a lot of extra money lying around (there were twelve of us after all), but she always managed to make me feel spoiled.
When I was thirteen, I really, really wanted my hair permed.  So my mom found a lady who lived about twenty minutes away and did perms in her home at a cheaper price.  My mother worked during the week out of the home, so it was kind of a big deal for her to give her one day off to cater to my desires.  We all know that perms on long hair take FOREVER.  But, my mom made it seem like it was nothing.  This is just a simple example, but one that perfectly demonstrates the kind of mother that I have.
My mom has given so much of her time and energy for her children.  I think about how selfish I can be as a mother some days (okay, most days) and I feel humbled.
Someone in church quoted that labor was like walking through the valley of the shadow of death.  I believe that was similar to my experiences.  And then I think of my mother--a woman who successfully brought into the world twelve babies--and I feel amazed.  Her legacy will be passed down for generations because of the selfless choices she made.  I know that she was an instrument to the Lord in helping give precious spirits their bodies.  I am so blessed to have her for a mother.
