Car Rug

I made this several months ago for my son's 4th birthday.  My advice... SEW not glue!  I originally spent hours hot gluing this baby together (burns included), and then after just a few uses, it was clear that all my hard work was not going to last.  My boys couldn't crawl on it without pulling up corners all over the place.

This is a picture after it has been sewed together.  Notice the roads shrunk -sewing tends to have that effect.  It was very, very difficult to sew over my glue mess underneath, and I really wish I would have done it the right way in the first place.  I always think the simplest way is the best... but in this case, not so.  I did have to hand-sew a few corners where the glue was too thick for the machine.

I used two yards of green felt.  I left a good chunk of the second half (not pictured) just plain.  My boys love to pretend that is where the tractors "farm."  They also put their wood garages on that side when they get ambitious.

Overall, fun project!  Felt is a great 'work while you watch a movie' type of craft.  It has so much more color than the rugs that you get from the store.  I was a little disappointed that my boys didn't want to play with it 24/7, but it has had enough use to satisfy me.  Coming soon... felt quiet book preview!
