Today's radio message
I was driving in the car with my family and we were listening to some Christian Rock (KFLR Family Life Radio in Phoenix). In between songs one of the commentators shared a Mother's Day message that got my eyes watering!! It was a dedication to mothers, and while I looked on their website, I couldn't find it to link to. But, it was so great I had to share what I remembered.
Basically, it was for mothers that had a child that year, mothers that lost a child that year, mothers that had experience birth for the first time, mothers that had experienced loss through miscarriage or stillbirth, mothers that had been in the trenches all day with little ones, mothers that had teenagers, mothers that were going to be or are empty nesters, mothers that had gone through all the poking and prodding of fertility without success (and here I loved it b/c she said, and forgive us for our insensitivity and when we say the wrong thing... we're sorry), mothers that were expecting, mothers that were going through health issues, single mothers etc. After each one they listed they would say something like we're here for you, we're happy for you, we're sorry.
The woman talking was so sincere in her words that I really felt her trying to reach out. I loved it. It's my wish to be more like that. To be aware of the different mothers that around me, or women that want to be and aren't, and then try to reach out to them. It's not like I have to save anyone's life, or change history. Like the woman from this radio station, I can just take the time to say, "hey, I'm here for you!"
I can totally relate to several of the things that were listed. I am going through the trenches, I've experienced the sweetness of having my first child, I've lost and now I am expecting. I've been insensitive (ouch, I know) and I have been on the flip side where others have tried to comfort me, but blundered and added salt to my wound. Being a mother is a complex job. It literally requires so much blood, sweat, and tears. It is definitely not for the faint at heart!
So, here is my shout out to the mothers in this world! You keep the world on its feet.
And to the mothers in my life... I am forever shaped by you, and am so much better because of it.
