Hotcha!

Anyone seen the Shirley Temple's Dora's Dunkin Doughnuts film?  She is my favorite child actress, so her name might be mentioned on this blog again.  In the movie, Shirley Temple does a radio bite with her class, and she keeps sneaking behind her teacher to say "hotcha" into the microphone.  Since watching that film, my kids and I love the term "hotcha," which we use in refernce to anything hot.  And let me tell you, we are going to be saying HOTCHA a lot!   Here in AZ it is already 96 degrees outside, and it is only mid April.  I can't complain because it has felt like spring since December.  However, I am not ready for the 105 weather that will haunt us next week.  I was raised in Idaho where the summers are mild, and the winters can be murder, so this heat has taken some adjustment.

I am going to have to come up with menu ideas that don't involve the oven.  Soup is definitely out (which I am obsessed with) because how can you eat soup when it is 115 outside?  I am already searching for fun things to do with my kiddos during the summer.  I think we will only be outside if we are in the pool or at the splash pad.  I am so grateful for whoever invented the splash pad, since our rock backyard does not make it ideal to have sprinklers going.

Okay, I know I am rambling, but someone told me this great tip, and although it was a "slap myself in the face, why didn't I think of that" kind of a moment, I will still share it with you.  If you don't want to burn your kids when you buckle them in their carseats, put a towel over their seat when not in use.  Hello!  If it works for the stearing wheel, why not the car seats?  Why did I have to burn my kids' thighs so many times before I heard that tip?  I approve this tip 100%.  The pic above is a car seat sun shade off amazon that costs $8-9, which is what I initially wanted.  Cheap!  But I am cheaper, so I will stick with my towels.  Thank you frugal mothers.  I am open to any other great tips to help me survive my first summer in AZ.

  1. might as well make those beach towels so you always have them in the car when you hit the pool or the splash pad this summer. I think I might need to do this as well.
